REMOVABLE PROSTHESIS TREATMENT

Removable Prosthesis

As the name indicates, removable prostheses are those that can be taken out of the mouth and put back in. A removable prosthesis is a structure that allows the replacement of teeth providing the re-establishment of the aesthetic, phonetic and masticatory function. Dental prosthesis can be total, in case you have lost all your teeth, or partial, in cases where some teeth are missing and the remaining teeth are healthy.

You can opt for a skeletal prosthesis with an individualised metallic base that rests on the gums and teeth, or you can opt for an acrylic prosthesis that is predominantly made of acrylic resin, and rests solely on the gums, although it may have metallic parts for retention (hooks), nets, reinforcements, palatal or lingual bars.

Over time it is normal for dental prosthesis to become slightly loose in the mouth, so they will need to be readjusted due to everyday wear and tear. In these cases, it is advisable to rebase the dental prosthesis. Prosthesis should be replaced when they begin to misadjust and/or show significant dental wear.

It is, therefore, advisable to visit your dentist, at least once a year, so that this professional can make a correct evaluation of the state of your prosthesis.
